1025 AM PDT Sat Apr 25 2026
Updated aviation and hazards sections.
.SYNOPSIS...Dry conditions with mostly sunny skies through
this weekend. High temperatures remain near or slightly above
seasonable normals for late April. Chances for light showers
increase Monday to Tuesday, with the highest chances over the
Cascades. Drier and potentially warmer temperatures return
Wednesday to Friday as high pressure builds.
&&
.DISCUSSION...Today through Friday...Satellite imagery as of
early Saturday morning depicts scattered/broken high level
clouds moving over northwest Oregon and southwest Washington
from the north. If these high clouds linger over the area, this
could limit frost development across the southern Willamette
Valley and Upper Hood River Valley this morning. However, since
there are no signs of low cloud cover, radiational cooling can
still take place and bring temperatures down to the mid 30s and
lead to frost. Frost Advisories remain in effect for the Upper
Hood River Valley, Lane County Lowlands, and Linn County
Lowlands through 9 AM this morning.
Expect dry weather today with mostly sunny skies across
northwest Oregon and southwest Washington. The upper level
pattern over the Pacific Northwest remains northerly to
northwesterly, mainly due to an amplified ridge over far
northwest Canada and the northeast Pacific, and a stalled closed
low over south-central Canada and the northern Plains.
Temperatures are forecast near to slightly above normal this
weekend, with highs in the upper 60s for interior lowland
valleys, and upper 50s to low 60s along the immediate coast. A
similar pattern continues on Sunday, except with slightly more
moisture available in the mid-levels, increasing chances for
light showers in the afternoon and evening over the Cascades and
adjacent foothills.
Monday through Tuesday, additional weak shortwave troughs
extending from the parent low over south-central Canada will
swing through the Pacific Northwest and bring increased chances
for light showers across the entire region. Chances for showers
on each of these days peak around 10-20% along the I-5 corridor
and 20-40% across the Cascades and Coast Range. Due to potential
showers, temperatures early next week cool down a few degrees
into the mid 60s across interior valleys. Will note that
guidance is beginning to trend drier for these days.
Wednesday to Friday, the majority of LREF ensemble members
suggests that upper level ridging build over the northeast
Pacific and shift into the Pacific Northwest. Most ensemble
members also show above-average 500 mb heights over the area,
suggesting warmer temperatures by mid to late next week. There
still remains some uncertainty on the exact strength and
placement of the ridge axis, thus leading to a wide range of
high temperatures. High end max temperatures for Thursday and
Friday next week are currently in the upper 70s to low 80s
across interior valleys. Chances for exceeding 80 degrees on
Thursday are around 30-50% across the Portland/Vancouver Metro
and 15-30% for the rest of the I-5 corridor. Meanwhile, low-end
max temperatures for Thursday and Friday are in the low to mid
60s (10-20% chance). -10

.AVIATION...VFR conditions prevail across the region through the
TAF period with mostly clear skies and a few high clouds. North to
northwesterly winds, breeziest between 19z Sat-02z Sun along the
coast and from KUAO southward with gusts up to 20 kt. Winds ease
below 10 kts in the evening after 02-03z Sun. Guidance indicates a
50-70% chance for MVFR ceilings developing along the coast around
and south of KONP after 10z Sun, and a 15-35% chance north of KONP,
including KAST. Efficient cooling in the Upper Hood River Valley
between 08-16z could lead to temperatures in the low to mid 30s
across, allowing for potential frost development over metal surfaces.
KPDX AND APPROACHES...VFR conditions with mostly clear skies today.
Northerly winds around 6-8 kts, decreasing below 5 kts after 02-04z
Sun. -03
&&
.MARINE...High pressure over the waters and a weak thermal
trough along the coast will maintain light offshore winds
through this morning. This afternoon through Sunday, the thermal
trough breaks down, but high pressure remains over the waters
and maintains northerly to northwesterly winds. Winds shift more
westerly on Monday as a weak front moves through, remaining
under 15 kt. Seas of 5-7 ft persist through next week with a
northwesterly swell. -10
